Chesnaught Weakness

Chesnaught is weak to Flying, Fire, Ice, Poison, Psychic, and Fairy. Watch out for Flying attacks, those deal 4x damage. With 6 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Chesnaught's physical bulk (base 122 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Chesnaught Guide

  • For Sun & Moon, we rate Chesnaught B-Tier: a solid option in Sun & Moon for the right team. At 530 BST, it fits the tank role. Drain Punch with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Sun & Moon, Chesnaught can Mega Evolve into Mega Chesnaught. That's 630 BST, up from 530. The stat redistribution often changes its best role. Mega Stone required, one per battle.

  • In Sun & Moon, Chesnaught's biggest threats include Braviary (Flying), Blaziken (Fire), and Weavile (Ice), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Braviary is the most dangerous since Flying moves deal 4x damage. Poison, Psychic, and Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Overgrow is the go-to ability for Chesnaught. It strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. Its hidden ability Bulletproof can work in specific setups.

  • At base 64 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Chesnaught is leaning toward the physical side (base 107 Attack). Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a tank.

Game Availability

Since debuting in X & Y, Chesnaught has appeared in 6 titles over 5 generations. Along the way, it received a Mega form in Generation 6, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
